CGI

Common gateway interface is a way of communicating between web servers and other programs. You can either write your own programs or use pre-written ones.

POP3/IMAP

These are full e-mail accounts, useful when you have different people that you want to assign their own mailboxes.

Mailing Lists

You can use mailing lists to send newsletters, announcements or other information to your customers, subscriber or friends.

Traffic Allowance

This allowance covers the pages and other files sent from your web site to your visitors. The recommended maximum size of a web page is 48K so an allowance of 1GB should cover around 20,000 pages. Extra bandwidth will be charged at $2.50 per 100MB or you can purchase it in advance for $2.00 per 100MB.

Disk Space

Your disk space allowance covers your web pages, database tables, cgi programs and Zope objects. Extra disk space is $5.50 per 100Mb.

Connections

We have redundant OC-3 and DS-3 connections to separate Internet backbones, which helps to guarantee that your web site is always available to your visitors.

Uptime Guarantee

We guarantee that except for scheduled system maintenance your web site will be available 99.9% of the time. Should our network monitoring show that your site is down for longer than 1 hour at any time we will refund your fees for 1 day for every hour your site is unavailable.

Your own IP

IP numbers are the "real" addresses for web sites on the Internet. Computers translate addresses like www.yourdomain.com.au to numbers like 203.30.98.71. Having your own IP ensures that all potential visitors will be able to access your site.

HTTPS/SSL

HTTPS/SSL provide security and encryption to web sites. Having SSL allows you to provide a secure e-commerce environment, which will increase the number of people willing to use their credit cards to buy things from your site.

Anonymous FTP

Anonymous FTP (file transfer protocol) allows visitors to your web-site to download files more efficiently.

Write your own cgi scripts

In addition to using the pre-written scripts we provide you are free to write your own. Some restrictions apply. In particular if you intend to run any background processes/servers/daemons please discuss them with us first. We monitor our servers and excessive resource use may result in us removing your cgi scripts/programs without notice. Extreme and repeated abuse may result in the cancellation of your account. (We have no problem with any reasonable use of our servers, but we reserve the right to determine what is reasonable.)

Python

Python is an very high level language, well suited to CGI programming.

Perl

Perl is probably the most popular language for cgi/web programming. We maintain as current as possible an installation of perl and many standard perl modules. www.perl.org is the main web site for perl.

PHP

PHP is a very popular web application development environment. You can find information at www.php.net.

Shell

Simple (or complex, if you are very stubborn) cgi programs can be written using various unix shells. We can provide bash, csh, sh. See the man pages for more information.

C/C++

We provide the gcc compiler for cgi-applications requiring maximum speed/efficiency. Writing C/C++ code is not for the faint hearted however. We can provide C/C++ consulting, but applications that need this level of power tend to be complex and therefore expensive.
